Conversations on the film Butterflies

Documentary film director, who is at the same time a lecturer in Department of Filmmaking, Kurtuluş Özgen, watched the film Butterlies, directed by Tolga Karaçelik, with our department students and arranged an event on discussing the film’s relationship between form and content on 6^th April 2018. The film, which won the Grand Jury Award in Sundance Film Festival and had positive reactions from various national and international film festivals, is an example of filmosophy cinema. Our students have the chance to watch and have debates on these kind of films produced besides main stream, in events outside of the school and this also gives them a chance to be socialized in civilian spaces. The event took place in Kızılay Büyülüfener Cinema and Kurtuluş Özgen made a formalist analysis of the film and underlined the importance of students’ active participation to such events.
