A Panel from Department of Filmmaking on Sound, Dubbing and Music

 

Department of Filmmaking held a panel called “Bir Ses Duydum Sanki” (I Heard a Sound) which focuses on sound, dubbing and music on film, video and animation. The event took place in Avni Akyol Conference Hall on 22^nd December 2017 and brought the professionals of the sector together. Dubbing Artist Onur Akgülgil, Sound Engineer Erkan Tatoğlu, Baskent University Faculty of Communication lecturer Zeynep Işıl Işık Dursun and Actress Şebnem Gürsoy shared their experiences in a pleasant conversation with the students of Faculties of Communication and Fine Arts, Design and Architecture.

 

Onur Akgülgil, who is a dubbing artist working in different dubbing studios in Istanbul and on projects like advertisement, film and animation mentioned the effects of dubbing to the general structure of the film. Also mentioning about the processes of dubbing in film and animation and the effects of being an artist in dubbing, Akgülgil emphasized that the new digital platforms are important improvements for film and series. Actress Şebnem Gürsoy, on the other hand, talked about Turkey’s first dubbing projects and shared her own experience with the audience. Dubbing in various films and animations broadcasted in TRT, the actress said that Ankara have lost its central position in film and series to İstanbul while also touching upon the subject of dubbing influence on society’s cultural development.

 

Sound Engineer Erkan Tatoğlu mentioned about the minimum technical terminology that future’s director candidates and ones want to work in film sector should have on sound and music. While talking about the impact of music on film’s structure and genres of music, Tatoğlu also mentioned about elements of general culture that the student’s should have. Zeynep Işıl Işık Dursun was the moderator of the panel as well as one of the panelists. She made a presentation about the emotional effects of music used in film and series on audience. Işık Dursun showed that the different music styles’ changing the genre of film with examples in her presentation. The event came to an end with the answers of the panelists to questions of the students of departments of Filmmaking, Animation and Radio, TV and Cinema.
